Reasons for selecting readymades

I cast these forms in plaster and concrete of literal items because I feel that they link to the idea of power and control. Firstly, the sword is medieval in style and is linked to military control of the past and can also be seen as a religious symbol due to the shape of the cross. It references Christianity.

Secondly, the pistol is a modern symbol of military control and represents both a hero and villain characteristic for whoever holds it. Also, the gun is a religious symbol for Americans expressing their second amendment (‘the right to bear arms’) or in other words "weapons are part of my religion". However, Western European's see this as "so uncivilized".

The third readymade I have chosen to use is a circle of concrete Star Destroyers which creates an ‘all seeing eye’ that knows all and yet knows nothing. For the age of literal warfare is usually caused by the western world interfering in matters that only get rid of the dictator thus creating more terrorist groups and mass-migration like in the 2000 's and early 2010's. The Star Destroyer is like a sci-fi representation of a WWII Battlecruiser (Bismarck). It also reminds me of the Empire of Japan's own Star Destroyer the Yamato, which were enormous cruisers. These cruisers were meant to be impregnable but they were too long which resulted in them sinking.

The final object I decided to cast was the lightsaber. Nothing could compete with this powerful weapon and war is the last resort. Unfortunately, this lightsaber and its (First) master fell and committed genocide, killing all within the temple, this included the weak, the strong and the younglings. The weapon would redeem itself from this with its (Second) master in fighting off the (First) in rushed duals and becoming a symbol of hope and redemption.
