Artist Statement
My work before my FMP in 2019 was mainly conceptual abstract three dimensional relief sculptures in nature. I only used small amounts of colour and would have used a mono palette. I did this as my early work would be less important with too much bold colour running through it. The one thing that’s stayed the same is not giving away too much information on my projects. I use a combination of my own 3D objects as well as readymades. My work suggests a type of story telling through the sculptures I make, intended to surprise the audience in abstracted forms.
The bulk of my work lately has been manly appropriated ready-made sculptures. I have slowly introduced more colours into my work. I would tend to use mono colours with primary and secondary colours. I would rather give the ominous effect of a message as to make the audience work for the answer is subjective. I recycled ready-mades into makeshift games that suggest the aspects of a world that contains complex themes that really make the audience think.
More recently, I am interested in how the world works and how aspects relate to one another. I have explored themes that others may think are political. However, I see them as more of a comedy like satire spoofs. I have found it more entertaining than real comedy as people become more offended by political ideology than comedy itself. One of the themes I’ve delved into has been Brexit as I’ve been fascinated and disgusted by the political figures and the antagonistic things they say and how they went back on their words. I can only cope with the things that go on in the world by using humour and satire. In my work, I like to experiment and try a variety of media. At present I am working with casting objects and exploring symbolism associated with the military, economics and religious/political ideology.
