Proposed Final Outcome

After experimenting with different layouts using my cast swords and guns, I feel that I would like to use 'The Killing Tree' formation and (swords clash) formation as my final outcome. 'The Killing Tree' arrangement is visually interesting, I've incorporated the bent sword casts and the swords facing down, I also placed the lightsaber hilts at an angle to resemble the roots of a tree. The guns pop out of it like a progression of military warfare. The (swords clash) formation also remind me of brother in arms, the straighter sword and the curved swords meet together almost as though there is a spark, it has a more energetic feel to it. ‘The Killing Tree’ has a more organised look to it. The objects I have used reflect past, present and future. The past is represented by the swords, present is represented by the guns and to a certain extent the star destroyers. To represent the future, I wanted to cast money which I would have used at the top of the arrangement. I unfortunately ran out of time to cast any money.

I want the audience to see this work as playing with military ideologies, as though we are preparing for war. The hilts of the swords could resemble gravestones as well, which could give the work a serious and sombre feel to it. For ‘The Killing Tree,’ I used plaster and concrete for my casts, the plaster came from my first experiments with casting the objects. The combination of materials gives the casts a different colour, the white plaster really stands out away from the grey concrete which makes the viewer look at those objects first. I intentionally placed the white plaster casts around the outside of the arrangements because I didn’t want them to dominate the design. For the (swords clash) arrangement, I have placed three plaster guns at the top, I really wanted to just use concrete here but the white plaster adds a bit of interest to the formation.

I placed the casts on the floor, originally, I wanted to place them in plant pots and arrange them. Due to time constraints, I ended up placing them directly onto the floor. In a gallery space this would encourage an audience to walk around the formations, interacting with them. An audience would be able to view the arrangements from different perspectives.
