Title: Ideological Power
Summary:
I am exploring the subject of corporate ideology. I am specifically looking at the way Disney as an organisation dominate the media industry. It seems to me that the more power they have the more the media products they produce are weakened. It seems to me that the more absorb other organisations like Marvel and Star Wars, the more they loose focus. I am interested in their compromised ethical position and how the ‘all inclusive’ exterior conceals the truer corrupt nature. This contradiction between apparently caring for the vulnerable in society, whilst at times being quite ruthless in the pursuit of money is the core of my visual work.
Activities:
Working with Stencils and spray paints I am going to create a series of images which appropriate segments of Disney imagery which I am re-arranging and combining to plant more sinister associations. I am using spray paint because of its anti-establishment associations with graffiti. I aim to produce Disney reference work which is familiar but altered. Disney on the one hand with its mega bucks production values re-configured into a raw urban aesthetic. This will add dystopian dark undertones. I aim to combine traditional imagery from Disney with that from Star Wars.
Resources:
Water based spray paints, card stencils, different surfaces. Both traditional and as found.
Research plan:
I will gather data and research about Disney from the Twitter feed www.https://dataeracer
I will gather imagery from google searches from key films in particular the newer films
I will gather information on the following artists who appropriate consumerism imagery or explore it as a subject:
Jeff Koons https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeff_Koons

Evaluation
I will evaluate material experimentation both via own and peer reflection. I will consider how aesthetics impacts message.
I will evaluate on an experiment by experiment basis.
Closer to exhibition I will share work with others to help finalise choices for final display and discuss presentation methods
I will evaluate against other artists as well.
I will write a summative document which covers key ongoing and final evaluation.
