Sketch book paper 1
The first stencil of the Disney Castle in which consists of multiple colours red, black and some spotted yellow. Its very rough Gothic, dystopia like ,shows hellish nature, sense of compliance and masters of control.
Sketch book paper 2
I've done another stencil-print of the Disney Castle in which consists the three primary colours. The background yellow spray-painted first. The Castle red first then slightly to the right in blue. This shows both the virtual signaling to the west and submission for money in the east. Blue (West) Red (East). Overall this is an improvement over the first one above from its simple beginning.
Sketch book paper 3
The final stencil only consisting of the Disney Castle is the most complex of the earlier stencil-prints. Initially I used rainbow colours in the background that was darken by one of my wet pages landed on it. I had to spray black over the whole background to better disguise. The Castle was sprayed in white first, then red then overlapped another stencil over it and sprayed in yellow. This early sample didn't quite turn out how i expected but the accidental background makes me think of hypocrisy.
Experiment book paper 1
I made a stencil of the Disney Castle which I spray painted through onto torn out pages of a Star Wars novel. ‘The Last Jedi’. I did this in two overlaid colours red and blue. I shifted the stencil to create a shadow effect. This image is distorted and chaotic. I am not happy with the resolution of the image. I am fine with the surface of the book pages. This is because of the connection between Star Wars and Disney. The spray paint shows a crude street art style, which is more informal, direct and less refined and glamourous.
Experiment White Card 1
In this the shadow effect is more effective and stands out against the lighter background. The figure combines two stencils of two characters. The head of Mickey Mouse, which I think is too faded and the figure of ‘Thanos’ from Marvel comic who were recently taken over by Disney. Apart from the paint density I am pleased with this combination. I think the head could be better connected and moved to the right. I enjoy the colours which blend but wish it was cleaned up a bit in its application. I will take the combined head and body form forward.
Experiment white card 2
I am pleased with the placement of the Mickey Mouse head. The purple, blue and yellow are more powerful than the last test. The green behind accts like a shadow. The combined figure feels more powerful. The castle looks more threatening and imposing as if like a haunted building. It connects better to the figure in its colourways.
I have added the Hollywood sign backwards in black with white overlays. This suggests a contrast between what lies beneath the surface and the image. It has a burnt feel. The white speckles almost have a cell like form. Each letter has different patterns which I find curious.
Experiment Book paper 2
In this the pages have more evident masking tape. The combined image of the castle and the figure suggest Micky Mouse is like an overlord of this land. The rusty colours could be seen as blood and suggest he is like a psychopath.
I am unsure about the composition, but feel I could build on the bloody fist and its violent associations. It reminds me of a scene in ‘American Psycho’ where someone gets killed in his apartment.
Winnie the pooh book paper stencil (Sample)
This sample I'd more controlled than the others, but I then ran out of red spray paint in which I gained more control but later would run out of spray-paint. However in the begin was just trying to see what this would look like on a single piece of book paper. This was the only stencil of this 'character' that had multiples layers you could see in the face as yellow and red shadows. I didn't end up using the shadows as it would be complicated. I intended to use simple colours further in the development of further sprayed works. I will continue to use the star wars books in my work.
